One
is happening in Syria right now.
Another, in Ukraine. Could
one really have happened in America?
Yes.
Sometimes
it seems weird to think that there was a civil war in America. It seems like such a foreign concept,
and yet it was the most lethal conflict fought in U.S. history. I know the basic principles of the
Civil War, but I’ve never really known a whole lot about the details, so the
first book I’ve chosen to read is The
Killer Angels, written by Michael Shaara. This book is classified as historical fiction, but it is, in
the words of General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, “The best and most realistic
historical novel about war I have ever read.” It is not, from what I’ve heard, a dry read, monotonous and
redundant, but rather, informative in an engaging way. The movie adaptation for this film is Gettysburg, a movie that I have seen before. Despite being a “documentary” in some
respects, it still felt like a story with an uncannily suspense-ridden
shape. I look forward to reading
this novel, and learning about the war that united the
states of America, specifically, about the Battle of Gettysburg. Stay tuned for more updates on this and
other books.
Hey Dillon!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I have decided to be your best blog friend for the next few weeks and follow alongside you in this crazy journey! I first have to say that your intro into your blog got me hooked instantly. Fantastic writing! I love the premise of the book so far and it already has me interested. I was even planning on reading a fiction book in this genre (one of my favorites), but instead I decided to branch out of my comfort zone. Maybe I will read something similar or even this book for my free choice. I wish you the best of luck in reading this seemingly interested book and I am super excited to see how the author turned a real life event into a fiction story.
Look forward to hearing more about this book!
